Last week, my assistant placed a thick brown envelope on my desk. As soon as I saw the colorful stamps, I knew it was from South America. And I couldn’t wait to open it!
It was a touching “thank you” letter from Julio Cesar Loaiza. Julio teaches at a school in Umasbamba, Peru.
The schoolchildren had a great time creating colorful egg crate and pipe cleaner flowers as a thank you gift.
This school — as well as the surrounding community in a remote area near the famous ruins of Machu Picchu — is funded by the Sears Wellness Research Foundation.
And by YOU…
That’s because a percentage of all Wellness Research sales goes to support the Foundation. That includes all of my subscription newsletters, books, e-books and reports.
Julio wanted me to know how great the children at the school are doing. And he included photos of the smiling kids so I could see for myself.
Pictures like these remind me that the work we’re doing here is well worth it. I feel grateful for the chance to be involved with the children and families we support through the Foundation.
How does your support help the Foundation
Let me tell you about a few of the things your support of the Foundation does for the families in Umasbamba:
- Provides hot meals daily
- Supplies access to running water
- Set up a school
- Pays teachers’ salaries
- Educates both the children and their parents sustainable farming techniques their ancestors used. This allows them to grow plants indigenous to their ancestors. That’s something the Foundation strongly believes in.
Here is the finished project. I think they did a terrific job!
Just a few months ago, we bought every child at the school a warm “winter” jacket. Winter in this area is actually from June to September. Temperatures in the Andes can get downright cold… even dropping below freezing at times.
I’ve met most of these kids in person. It’s amazing to see from these photos how much they’ve grown. I can’t wait to get back to Peru and visit with them. I’m planning to return soon. I’ll definitely keep you informed about that trip.
I feel so fortunate every time I get to visit with these amazing children.
