Have you heard about the new Star Trek movie? I’ve never been that big of a fan, but I took my 15-year-old son who wanted to see it.
The old nemesis of Captain Kirk is back. He’s 300 years old, super-fast, super strong and genetically engineered to be that way.
I got to visit the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) |
That was sci-fi, but those things are coming. Every day, I learn about new things happening today that are making this a reality.
One of the most exciting is the breakthrough work being done at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) on telomeres.
Those are the little caps at the end of your DNA I’ve been talking to you about.
Dr. Maria Blasco and her team at the CNIO did a remarkable study where they activated telomerase in a group of mice. Not only did they live 24% longer, they were living better for their entire lives.
They had far fewer age-related health problems like osteoporosis, blood sugar problems or heart disease. And they were able to keep up with all the younger mice, too.1
I see similar results with my patients when I help them maintain their telomeres.
I start with a test developed by Dr. Blasco for a company called Life Length, which she started with Steve Matlin.
I just got back from visiting with Steve and his team at the CNIO and the Life Length lab, and had dinner with Steve afterwards.
The reason I use the test he and Dr. Blasco developed is that Life Length is the only test that can measure percentage of short telomeres in individual cells from both blood
and tissue samples. Why is that important? Because it’s a more accurate measure of cellular aging, and more relevant to your health, than other telomere tests.
At my Center for Health and Wellness, we use it to help measure both the biological age of your telomeres, and of other systems in your body to help you live younger starting right now.
That’s why I write to you often about telomeres. Because we’ve cracked open and exposed the major mechanism by which your body controls the aging process. Your DNA orchestrates this program that controls the forces of aging, and we can now intervene in it.
I showed the results of the telomere testing we’ve done at my Center for Health and Wellness to the doctors at the most recent International Anti-Aging Conference in Malaysia just a few weeks ago.
One of the things I revealed is that simply knowing the length of your telomeres is the first step in getting better with age.
It’s very important to know your real biological age so we know how well you’re doing. Then we can help you improve as you age, so you can get back to doing what you want instead of worrying.
For me, it’s not about helping you avoid disease. I want you to get better as you age. And telomere testing is how we measure your progress. We see where you are, quantify that, and then improve it so you can have more health and a better life.
If you haven’t had your telomere length tested before, it’s a very easy process. It only takes a minute or two, and the results can sometimes surprise you.
They definitely surprised my patient L.S. When I first tested her telomere length, she had an overall biological age of 77.
Her brain was a bit younger at 69, but her heart’s biological age was 86!
I designed a telomere maintenance protocol for her, like I do with all my telomere patients. Just 24 months later the transformation is incredible.
Her biological age is almost 20 years younger. Her mind has become a decade stronger and smarter, and her heart has reversed its age by an incredible 27 years! Here’s her chart that I showed the doctors at the anti-aging conference:
It’s just one more piece of evidence that you can grow younger focusing on maintaining your telomeres. But it all starts with knowing how healthy your telomeres are in the first place. After all, knowledge is power.
That’s why if you choose to have your telomere length tested, the price has come down. I’ve had many talks with Steve and Life Length and he’s lowered the price so that it’s not as expensive as it once was. I do this for my patients at my Wellness Center here in South Florida. You can contact my Center for Wellness at 561-784-7852 and talk to any of my staff and we’ll help set you up with the testing. We’re happy to answer any questions you have.
