Is Your Brain Shrinking?

Dear Member,

Did you know your brain shrinks as you get older?

The shrinking starts in adulthood and continues at an average rate of 2% per decade. This means that at 80, your brain will be 12% smaller than at 20.

If you do nothing you can expect problems. Memory loss is only the beginning.

But to turbo-charge your brain and prevent mental decline, there are two supplements you may not be familiar with… but I can tell you they work. I get great results with my patients.

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is vital for proper brain function. It is highly concentrated in brain cells. Its job is to house neurotransmitters and regulate their release. As we age, we need more help from PS. PS supplementation can make the difference.

Neurology published a well-done study, which proves that PS supplementation can restore cognitive function. Researchers gave the subjects either a regimen of PS or a placebo for 12 weeks. Volunteers were between the ages of 50 and 75 with memory impairment due to age.

The PS subjects had an improvement in learning and recalling names. They were better at face recognition, remembering telephone numbers, remembering misplaced objects, and concentrating. Subjects began to improve in as little as 3 weeks. 2 I recommend 100 to 200 mg a day.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC) is another exceptional brain supplement. ALC provides a range of brain protection, improving mood and memory. It protects the brain from damage due to poor circulation. ALC helps injured nerve cells to repair and function normally again. ALC also increases the release of the memory neurotransmitter, acetylcholine.

Researchers have found that ALC protects brain cells from damage even when blood flow is temporarily blocked. 3 ALC keeps the cell energy going even when there is little or no blow flow for short

amounts of time. I recommend 250 mg of ALC daily.

Brain boosting supplements are a great first step… but you have other options.

My friend and colleague Dr. Mark Hyman just introduced his 7-step solution for total brain health in his new book, The UltraMind Solution: Fix Your Broken Brain by Healing Your Body First.

Dr. Hyman says that the seemingly separate problems you may have with your brain — poor memory, lack of focus, anxiety, and even chronic problems such as depression, autism, Alzheimer’s, dementia, ADD/ADHD and more — are really all the SAME problem: a broken brain.

Even more fascinating says Dr. Hyman, is the solution isn’t in your head, it’s in your BODY — in the core biology that runs every cell, organ and system you have.

By fixing your body FIRST, you awaken your body’s natural intelligence, allowing it to heal your brain automatically – all by fixing the imbalances in the seven core biological systems at the root of health and most diseases.

You may have seen Dr. Hyman on the Today Show, Good Morning America or on public television discussing this groundbreaking solution — the same solution that he personally used to help cure himself of chronic fatigue syndrome over a decade ago. He was, in essence, his own guinea pig … he had no other choice.

Here’s a quick look at what you’ll discover and put to immediate use:

  • How to increase your body’s own natural flypaper-like sticky substance to gobble up and eliminate toxins that are dulling your mind.

  • What substance you eat every day that literally hardens and encrusts your brain, slowing your thinking and causing mood swings.
  • How two of the most powerful natural chemicals in your body, when out of balance, can send your brain into a thick fog (and make it harder to fit into your jeans).
  • Why this one natural supplement can often defeat depression far more effectively than can any drug.
  • A dangerous food you may be allergic to that can set your brain on fire with inflammation and destroy brain cells.
  • How this one activity you may do every day literally shrinks your brain (and a simple technique you can learn to prevent this from happening).
  • A simple six-week brain-boosting program to cleanse, heal and strengthen your brain, leading to an UltraMind.

I’m a reader of Dr. Hyman’s books and articles… he’s an original thinker and a true healer.
