Reset Your Hormone Switch to "Normal"

Have you ever shivered on a cold day? Felt a little light-headed when you stood up too fast? I’m sure you’ve broken a sweat while doing your PACE exercises, right?
In all these situations, what you’re feeling is your body trying to return itself to a “normal” state. In medical terms, we call it homeostasis – a fancy way of saying that your body is reacting to its environment and trying to get back within its natural chemical, hormonal and temperature ranges.
For example, when your energy levels are low, the conventional wisdom would tell you that your hunger hormones (like leptin and insulin) signal your body to “eat more, expend less.” And when you’ve eaten enough, your hormones should tell you that you’ve had enough.

I'll Be Your Personal Fitness Coach

When I show my patients how to do PACE, amazing things happen.
People who were so heavy they couldn’t get off the couch drop 90 pounds and feel reborn. People who think they “can’t do it,” find that they can.
Now, you can get the same help without ever stepping foot in my clinic.
That’s because I’ve made a DVD of my PACE program just for you. All you have to do is push “play,” and I’ll step into your living room and walk you through my revolutionary PACE program step-by-step.

Pigs Don't Lie

If you want to fight fat and keep a lean, muscular body, you can try going to the gym and spending hours and hours lifting, running, spinning…
…or you can use chromium.
Did you know that one study took commercial pigs and fed them chromium, and measured significant fat reduction? They changed nothing else about the pigs … all they did was give them chromium and they got lean.1 Not only that, but they had an increase in muscle, as well.

My Resolution to You

The first is that we’ve purchased a brand-new 17,000-sq.-ft. building that will allow us to expand the current wellness clinic and build the center that I’ve always wanted. It will be like a cross between the Canyon Ranch, the Pritikin Center & Spa, the Cooper Aerobics Center, and the Life Extension Foundation.
In the next five years, we want to make 100 years old the new 50.

The Cure for Cardio Hell

Have you seen the late-night commercials for those 90-minute “extreme” fitness programs? You may have felt a rush of excitement as you watched super-fit and attractive models jump around with their six-pack abs and bulging muscles.
Let me tell you about everyone I know who bought one of those DVDs and watched them at home… They came to a very disappointing conclusion:
They couldn’t do it!

The Perfect Pre-Workout Energy Boost

Ahhhhh … a giant plate of pasta the night before a big workout, long-distance run or a big game. It’s what all the athletes do, right? They load up on tons of carbs, so they can get the “extra energy” they’ll need.
Except that they don’t. Get the extra energy, I mean.
Conventional fitness trainers and nutritionists will tell you that pasta and carbohydrates are how you get the strength to perform at maximum capacity.

Breathe a Sigh of Relief

Have you ever thought about how our terms to describe breathing are tied to life: respiration has the same root as spirit and inspire… inhale and exhale have the same root as hale, meaning exceptional health and vigor.
There are plenty of examples in our language of words related to breath that mean life …
But in the modern world, we’re so distracted, we sometimes take our breath for granted.

"Dr. Sears, Are You OK?"

When I realized my new sleep remedy worked so well, I got excited thinking about all of my patients who can finally sleep better. Patients like Al, a 59-year old executive who travels so much, his body’s confused from all of the time-zone changes.
Then there’s Pamela, a single mom and working woman. She’s so stressed about paying the bills and having enough time for her son, she often lies awake at night. As she puts it, “I can’t seem to shut off my brain!”
And Carol, a sweet woman in her early 70s who always comes to her appointments showing the latest pictures of her grandchildren. She seems relaxed and loves retired life, but she can’t sleep more than five hours a night.
Chances are you know what it’s like to wake up groggy in the morning, wishing you slept more. The simple truth is, missing a good night’s sleep is not good for your overall health and vitality.

They’re Just Not Getting It…

lot of people are coming around to the idea that not only does long-duration cardio training not work, it’s dangerous. But while I give them credit for catching on, they’re not getting it quite right.
In fact, one of the most popular doctors on the Internet is also not recommending long-duration cardio any more like he used to. He’s come up with his own exercise regimen. I admire him for trying, but there are serious problems with his new program, and there are a few things I do differently.

How Young Are Your Muscles?

How would you feel if three pounds of your muscle disappeared every decade?
Yet, if you’re not getting enough of the right type of exercise, your muscles shrink as you age.
If this happens long enough, you wind up with a medical condition called sarcopenia. Sarcopenia simply means a deficiency of muscle. This occurs gradually. In fact, you may not even notice it, because your weight may not change as fat is replacing your muscle.
However, by the time you reach your 40s or 50s, it starts catching up with you. You may notice some excess belly fat. Perhaps your thighs or rear end seem to start growing larger. And somewhere along the way, you might realize it’s not so easy to heft those heavy objects any more.

Don't Be a Chicken – Eat Some Turkey

Thanksgiving is here, so let’s set the record straight: Eating a few extra helpings of turkey will not make you fat.
It’s the stuffing and the potatoes that pack on the holiday pounds. The bottom line is insulin and how much your body makes. Starchy foods like bread and potatoes send your blood sugar through the roof, triggering waves of fat-producing insulin.
So how can you tell the difference between foods that spike insulin and those that are less harmful?

New PACE Program – A Sneak Peek

I’ve now written four books about PACE, and I’m excited to tell you that we’re taking a fifth step. We’re putting together a brand new video program about PACE. You’re going to be able to take your PACE workout to a new level. You’ll get the progressivity built right in, with easy-to-follow workouts and advice.

No One Wants To Stop

Everyone who tries it has something good to say about it… And when they run out they always want more. No one wants to stop taking it. When the rest of the world catches up – this little-known West African herb could become recognized as the most effective weight-loss supplement ever discovered.

Did I Make the Army Stop Running?

Did you ever hear about the time I went to an Air Force Base?
I can’t tell you which one. The Air Force Colonel I met with, let’s call him “KL,” asked me not to make this public.
You see, KL had called me one day and said he was a fan of PACE. He had read my book, does PACE himself, and uses it to train Air Force staff, especially those returning to active duty.
KL had also set up PACE classes for women who have just had babies and the wives of servicemen on the base.
Why is the Air Force interested in PACE?

76 Pounds and Counting…

When Terri comes into my office, she lights up the room.
It’s hard to miss. Her smile radiates hope, victory, and real happiness.
If you’re not familiar with her story, Terri started PACE last year and lost 45 pounds in just four months. And it all started from walking for 45 seconds, then resting. At the time, that’s all she could do.
By December, she had dropped a total of 66 pounds…

I Have Some Exciting News…

In November I’ll be lecturing at a conference given by the leading association for alternative and integrative medicine.
The American College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM) has invited me to present PACE.
This is a big honor. And I’m excited about this opportunity to get the word out to thousands of doctors from over 30 countries who will be there…

Air Force "Hush-Hush" Over My Visit

A few weeks ago, I told you about the time I went to an Air Force base.
But I didn’t tell you everything in that first letter.
There’s more to the story.
If you remember, the Air Force Colonel “KL” is a fan of PACE and uses it to train Air Force staff, especially those returning to active duty.
He invited me to one of the largest Air Force bases in the world to give him and his staff some PACE training ideas. The Colonel asked me not to make it public, so I can’t give you any other details…
